The Midland Athletic League (MAL) began interscholastic sports competition prior to the 1985-86 school year. The league was formed when Bettsville, Hopewell-Loudon, New Riegel, Old Fort and Seneca East (of the Seneca County League) joined North Baltimore and Fostoria St. Wendelin (of the Lakeshore Conference). Tiffin Calvert and Fremont St. Joseph CC (of the Sandusky Bay Conference) were welcomed the following year.
Carey and Mohawk (of the North Central Conference) joined the prior to the 1990-91 school year, with Lakota (of the Suburban Lakes League) joining in 2009-10. That same season, Fostoria St. Wendelin discontinued its membership in football, but continued competition in all other sports until the league disbanded following the 2013-14 school year.
Acknowledgements: This information was compiled over many years of dedication by Jeffrey Garber. A comprehensible keeping of stats for the MAL was not started until the 1990-91 season. Therefore, statistical information for the years 1986 through 1990 are limited. A timely effort has been made by Jeff to get all possible information.
